As with everything else in the world there are good things and bad things that can be attributed to plastic surgery. In many cases, plastic surgery is used when a patient needs reconstruction of one type or another in order to achieve a more normal appearance. This is done so that the patient can lead a more normal life than would otherwise be possible if they remained in their current state. These procedures can range from scar reduction techniques all the way up to reconstruction of a broken nose or other malformed body part.
However, the darker side to plastic surgery is when people, who are otherwise completely normal, go in to have something upgraded or changed to better suit what they want and for no obvious health reasons. These surgeries are the ones that most people think of when they think of plastic surgery (i.e. breast implants, botox, rhinoplasty, hair removal, etc.). In these cases, because the doctors only have an idea of what the patient expects to gain from the almost always invasive surgery, there is a lot of room for error.
Unfortunately, because of the errors that can occur, there are many people who have had bad experiences with plastic surgery. Some of the more extreme cases are those in which the opposite result was achieved or where serious bodily injury occurred because of a mistake by an inexperienced surgeon. These errors can sometimes be life threatening or they could simply be expensive to fix (rhinoplasty where the nose is crooked or otherwise offset after the surgery). Because of the frequency with which celebrities have plastic surgeries, they tend to be the focus of the mistakes that can happen when the surgery goes well, but the outcome was less than desirable.
